A 30 minute spoken word performance piece introducing a series of female leaders from the Bible. First performed at the Kyria Network Scotland conference in Newton Mearns in 2020. The text includes references to the Bible passages where each woman’s story can be found, thus allowing the piece to be used for further study.

Allow Me To Introduce You
Allow me to introduce you
I think you’ll get along
Empathise, commiserate, sing a common song
Together stand as leaders here
Humble, gentle, strong
So be encouraged
Be reminded
Find your purpose and your call
As stories of God’s mighty power
Delight, refresh, enthral
And then, like women filled with hope
Laugh at the days to come
Pull this thread, grasp this rope
I think you’ll get along
There are mothers, prophets, teachers
Sisters, prisoners, widows, wives
Businesswomen, prostitutes, apostles, pastors.
Lives
Led by women called by God
for such a time as theirs
And in their lives we hear this call
As through them He declares
That He is good
And we are his
And so we lead
As we are led
Meet campaigners, daughters, judges
Intercessors, merchants, queens
Activists and artists, women of independent means
Accounts of girls called by God
for such a time as theirs
And in their lives we hear this call
As through them He declares
That He is good
And we are his
And so we lead
As we are led
Find influencers, evangelists
Contemplatives, old and young
Worshippers, pleaders, protectors, heroines unsung
Stories of females called by God
for such a time as theirs
And in their lives we hear this call
As through them He declares
That He is good
And we are his
And so we lead
As we are led
Allow me to introduce you
I think you’ll get along
Empathise, commiserate, sing a common song
Together stand as leaders here
Humble, gentle, strong
So be encouraged
Be reminded
Find your purpose and your call
As stories of God’s mighty power
Delight, refresh, enthral
Women who laugh at the days to come
Loved, included, safe in the One
Who gives life, who gives hope, who gives voice
Whose image they bear, whose purpose they share
Who laugh at the days to come
